When Win32.Rogue.FakePAV.3 is executed it opens up a false virus warning telling the unknowing person that their computer is infected with the ‘Unknown Win32/Trojan’ threat. It will then prompt the user to clean the infection. It disguises itself under the program name, Microsoft Security Essentials.
Once a user elects to clean their system, it pops open a new window listing many legitimate anti-virus scanners. In addition, it also shows a few made up antivirus software applications and lists them as a “free install”.
Once it gets installed, it prompts to reboot your computer. After the reboot, it displays a fake scan report. The only objective of this fake piece of software is to get users to purchase the software.
